The proton therapy for prostate cancer uses the same technique like the radiation therapy. However, the advantage of the photo therapy is that the good tissue that one has in the body is not damaged. On the other hand, the photon when passed through the body causes a lot of damage to the tumor cells and causes them to die. The effect of the photons is mainly focused on the disease causing cells and has very little or no effect on the healthy tissue and this role has made it to become the mainstay for prostate cancer.

Gene therapy on the other hand, is a very recent addition to the treatment for prostate cancer. There are different kinds of genes that are introduced into the body of the person who is suffering from the disease and this causes the person to have the genes fighting against the tumor cells and suppress the tumor. The prostate cancer gene therapy also involves the use of other kinds of suppressor genes that prevent the tumor cells from growing. Suicide genes on the other hand, help to kill the tumor cells. This amazing treatment has had better results than the conventional methods of treating prostate cancer.
