Kidney Cancer

Cancer is always an unwelcomed harsh reality. For those who have suffered from cancer of kidney, the harshness of reality is all too real. When dealing with an issue such as this, we always want to know what caused it, but the fact is for kidney cancer patients we do not really know what the real cause is. Scientist have discovered though that smoking can be a major risk factor and that smokers are two times as likely to get this disease than those who do not smoke. They have also determined that certain jobs seem to raise the risk of contracting this illness. Workers who run coke ovens or work closely with asbestos related products seem to have increased their likelihood of getting this illness as well.

The best way to determine how someone contracted this illness is to do a thorough family history investigation and a physical examination. If testing confirms that a tumor is present, it is imperative to determine what stage it is in. Cancer of kidney can spread to other areas of the body that can cause a faster death in some patients. If you believe you have kidney cancer symptoms you need to get to a doctor immediately as it does tend to spread quickly to parts of the body that will be more affected by it.

As with other cancers, Kidney cancer treatment can all depend on the size and location of the tumor and whether or not it has spread to other organs yet. There are biological therapies, chemotherapies, surgery and embolization and other ways to treat the kidney cancer symptoms. A Radical nephrectomy is a surgery that most kidney cancer patients will endure. It is a procedure that involves the removing of a part or an entire kidney, as well as possibly removing the adrenal glands and the fat build up around the kidney.

With embolization, a liquid substance is injected into the blood vessels with intention to clog them. In doing so, the tumor shrinks as it is fails to receive the blood that it needs to continue to enlarge. It is possible for some cases of Kidney cancer that embolization can make the surgery itself easier. But for when the surgery just is not possible, this treatment can reduce the pain and bleeding.
