Eat To Lower Risk Of Cancer
Cancer is defined as a class of diseases in which a group of cells multiply and grow at an uncontrollable rate, invasion and sometimes metastasis. The disease affects people at all ages. It has many causes such as heredity, infection, and mutation. However, there are modifiable risk factors that we can control through our Life Style.
Cancer diets are one of the most controllable factors that we can modify and make a way to cancer prevention. Majority of the cancer risk factors are related to our environment and diet which leads to a claim that cancer is a preventable disease. Some food can actually increase your risk of having cancer but there are also other food products that support your body and boosts up the immune system. Choices are available to help you protect your own health. There is a saying that “what you eat and don’t eat has a powerful effect on health” and there is a scientific support for that anecdote.
Make sure that you have an access to fresh plant-based food. These are mainly vegetables and fruits. Eat it raw as a salad or even bake it for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try eating apples, raw carrots, celery and cucumbers alone or with a low fat dip instead of eating chips for your snack. For deserts, replace your luscious icing cake with fruits or simply cut down 70% of the cake for desert. Real fruits juices are also good for your health. However, the juice from a powdered juice pack is not preferable. Have a juicer at home and make great fresh juice yourself from the fruits and the green leafy vegetables. Well however, the diet varies based on the type of cancer being suffered by the patient. A patient with pancreatic cancer will have a different pancreatic cancer diet. Similarly, a patient suffering from liver cancer should consult a doctor and follow the best liver cancer diet.
You should eat a lot of fibers as they are also rich form of plant-based foods. Fibers play a role in cleaning your digestive system. More raw the food more fiber it will contain which thus helps you cleanse your stomach properly. Vegetables and fruit also contain fibers along with a range of anti-oxidants that protect the body against cancer and help the body cells to function optimally. These antioxidants are found in food rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, E and Selenium.
Food preparation also plays a role along with your choice of food. So wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly to remove the carcinogenic substances. Steam vegetables with little water without overcooking and eat properly when you are hungry. Drinking plenty of water also helps keep away the disease.
Diagnosing Breast Cancer
Breast cancer, the most commonly found cancer type in females originates from the breast tissue and later grows across resulting to a severe form of cancer. Breast cancer, if not detected and treated in time during the early stages can even result to death of the patient. Although symptoms of breast cancer are commonly found in women they also occur in men, but in the rarest conditions. Breast Cancer cannot be termed as a specific disease but they usually refer to several cancers which affect the breast. Research suggests that the cause of breast cancer is the abnormal growth of cells but is yet to be proved.
Look out for the breast cancer symptoms below, which are frequently observed in Breast Cancer patients.
• Swelling / Breast lump in the breast area. In approximate 10% of total women affected by breast cancer, breast lumps are the early stage symptoms of breast cancer.
• Transfiguration of breast shape and size.
• Inflammation and redness of the breast.
• Discharge of liquid and at-times even blood from nipples.
• Severe pain and changes in skin color and texture surrounding the breasts.
The spread of breast cancer is divided in 4 stages:
• Stage 0: This first breast cancer stage refers to non persistent breast cancers like the cancers originating from breast and those originating from lobules. There are no facts about the spread in this stage.
• Stage I: The spread measures to about 2 cm or less and doesn’t affect the lymph nodes.
• Stage II: Stage II Breast Cancers are categorized into 2 categories based on the size of the tumor.
• Stage II-A: The size of the tumor is less than 2 cm (with lymph node involvement) or the spread is bigger than 2 cm but not more than 5 cm without lymph node involvement.
• Stage II-B: In this stage, the spread may be greater than 5 cm (but has not yet extended to the axillary lymph nodes). Otherwise, it is between 2 cm and 5 cm (with axillary lymph nodes involved).
• Stage III: Stage III Breast Cancers can also be classified into 2 phases.
• Stage III-A: The tumor is greater than 2 cm but not more than 5 cm and has extended up to underarm lymph nodes.
• Stage III-B: Is a critical stage where the surrounding breast tissues also become a prey of breast cancer.
• Stage IV: Cancer spreads to other organs and tissues. Chances of survival are about 16% and this period is also known as advanced stage.
Breast Cancer can only be treated in its early stages. Surgeries and therapies such as Chemotherapy breast cancer, Hormonal therapy, Radiation Therapy etc. are available to treat Breast Cancer. Hence make sure that you approach a doctor if you feel something wrong with your breasts.
